October 27th
Dear friends,
Just good news today, because I think it might be welcome: Chileans filled the streets yesterday to celebrate the passage of a referendum to change the nation’s constitution. The hope is that a new constitution will address “social and economic inequalities, police brutality, and [secure] Indigenous sovereignty.”
I voted yesterday, along with many other people who stood in the rain, in a line that formed a nearly complete circle around the Brooklyn Museum. The lack of audible grousing was notable, and I don’t think it was just that we stood at distance. The public art really helped. Remember to vote on the Working Families Party line.
Dare to hope.
with love,
L
