Hi friends,
Yesterday, I was talking about the listening and the storytelling that we have to do to meet the moment, and so I was thrilled to learn that a Democratic strategist named Mike Lux has distributed talking points for candidates when they need to talk about inflation, which they need to do.
It’s also great to have to some up-to-the-moment examples of what Democratic policies mean for people’s lives. These are also democratic policies, because they have broad support among the public.

The president took executive action earlier this month to pardon all federal offenses of marijuana possession, and to review the drug classification of marijuana. The move has been well-received by voters across party lines and it represents an important move to redress one of the ways that the criminal justice system has targeted communities of color.
The New York City council passed a package of child care legislation that creates a task force to study and develop recommendations on how to support working parents and caregivers and creates a second task force to examine how to make child care more sustainable and accessible.
Additional bills require the city to produce a directory of child care programs, establish a Child Care Advisory Board, and create an online portal that provides information on child care subsidies. There will also be a pilot program of child care grants for families in need of assistance.
We’re keeping our eyes open for good decisions by the courts at any level. A number of short-term measures are worth noting:
A judge issued a preliminary injunction against an Ohio abortion ban, which prohibits abortion after six weeks. Until the case is resolved, abortion will be permitted until week 22 of a pregnancy.
Capitalizing on a temporary injunction of the abortion ban in their state, Indiana Democrats are making a ‘contract with women’ at their campaign stops to highlight their commitment to restoring reproductive rights and
to decrease Indiana's maternal mortality rate, pass pregnancy workplace accommodations, create a statewide pre-kindergarten program and improve Hoosiers' access to childcare.
Republicans hold supermajorities in both houses of the Indiana legislature and Democrats are hoping to pick up some seats.
Keep your head up!
with love,
L
