Hi all,
I will try to keep this brief. My sense of urgency got the better of me this morning.
The Senate is voting today on a bill to codify our right to contraception. It will not be easy to pass the Right to Contraception Act — a disturbing fact in itself. The effort is, however, a powerful tactic to get legislators on the record.
Call your Senators if you have any doubt of their support for the Right to Contraception Act. No script! Pick up the phone.
This is the LAST day to submit a comment to federal agencies on the dangers of behemoth healthcare corporations and insurance and pharmaceutical giants. Personalize this action.
Please submit a comment to the FTC, DOJ, and HHS about the dangers of consolidation in health care. I made it easy!
Yesterday, I forgot to send out this next action. It’s a NYS action to get a bill passed that would prevent state-run hospitals from aggressively suing patients for small outstanding medical debts. These hospitals receive annual funds to cover uncompensated care.
Tell your reps that state-run hospitals should not be suing New Yorkers for medical debt.
Governor Kathy Hochul is trying to put the brakes on congestion pricing, which is set to begin at the end of this month.
Charles Komanoff of Streetsblog posted a great piece this morning about why her jitters are understandable. He acknowledges that it is counter-intuitive — and true! — that congestion tolls will make it easier to get around and make the city better for all of us. He also blows up the myth that congestion pricing will be bad for business.
Tell the Governor not to blink on congestion pricing. Please let her know if you’re a driver.
I’m just going to repeat a whole pile of recent actions.
It’s June, time for some bad decisions from the Supreme Court. Here’s an action, inspired by Jamie Raskin’s essay about how we reign in the insurrection-adjacent members of the Court.
Call on the US attorney for the District of Columbia and the Solicitor General to petition Supreme Court Justices to demand that Alito and Thomas recuse themselves from Jan 6 cases.
This foreign interference is not acceptable behavior by so-called allies. Tell the president, again, that his blind allegiance to Israel is dangerous and wrong.
Tell the president that the US must take responsibility for our role in the war on Gaza and stop supplying the Israeli military.
A reminder that you can take action with NY Renews even if you are not in NYS. Personalize them or just send them. Let’s pass some climate legislation!
Email the NYS Assembly leadership to tell them to pass the Just Energy Transition Act! From NY Renews.
Tell the Assembly Speaker and Ways and Means Committee to Advance the Climate Superfund Act. This is from NY Renews.
Just for the locals:
Tell the Mayor to restore the budget for city parks and libraries! I made it easy. Please, make it personal!
Tell the Mayor to invest in clean buildings, green schools, and good, union jobs! This quick action is from ALIGN.
I’ve got to make my call to pass NY HEAT right now. You can still join the relay!
with love,
L
