Dear friends,
Late last night, while most of us were sleeping, something exciting happened. The NYS Senate passed the crypto mining moratorium. It would be very bad form for the governor to veto this important environmental legislation AND we’ve seen bad form before.
Start today by calling or writing the Governor to tell her to sign the moratorium! This takes 30-seconds!
Jumaane Williams is the best candidate for governor.
[W]e have a vision that's actually better for New Yorkers — to make sure they're safe, they can afford their home, they can afford to have food on the table, to get health care.
That vision resonates. If we have people who have the courage to get it done. But we don't. We usually have people who are more interested in telling a billionaire that we won't ask you to pay your fair share so that you can cut me a big check and I can make sure I get reelected.
Whenever I’m in the streets fighting for climate action, Fair Pay for Home Care, or any question of justice, Jumaane is also there.
Support Jumaane Williams.
The Senate adjourned at 2:30 AM, and the Assembly is in overtime. Some important business is in front of the Assembly today, including the vote on the Clean Slate Act.
The legislation would enable someone to have their most recent misdemeanor conviction sealed three years after their case is adjudicated and seven years after their most recent felony conviction — if they are not on parole or under other court-authorized supervision.
The State Department of Education finally dropped their objections to the legislation yesterday and Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz has been whipping votes. As State Senator Zellnor Myrie has said, the Clean Slate Act is
both a "jobs bill" and a "public safety bill."
Call your Assembly rep to let them know that you support the Clean Slate Act.
I’m not even sure anymore which mass shooting is the latest shooting. The grisly details and the sheer numbers of gun deaths and injuries are astounding. And we must do more than wait for action.
ERPO laws prevent school shootings and suicides.
Legislation can encourage states to pass ERPO laws that meet minimum standards in order to be eligible for federal funding.
Sign this petition to Congress from Moms Rising to call for ERPO laws.
Tell Congress to Support the Counselors Not Criminalization Act. This is another 15-second action from Moms Rising.
I’m keeping it short today and ending the week with a recommendation for some recreation: join Flour, Sam, Evening, Chad and Philip Aries for a picnic.
The sheep are back on Governor’s Island! The landscaping team joyfully welcomed the sheep back for a second summer. The five sheep immediately began their duties — munching on invasive species.
Have a good weekend!
with love,
L
