Dear ones,
And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it.
Somehow, we do it.
Somehow, we’ve weathered and witnessed
A nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished.
Amanda Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb” is our theme and our inspiration.
We all had the same long nightmare and we will not forget it. Biden was sworn in ten minutes early, but not a moment too soon. Madam Vice President Kamala Harris was sworn in too and she in turn swore in three new US Senators, include Raphael Warnock, the first Black Senator from Georgia.
Hopefully, your breathing is less ragged, and you’re feeling a bit optimistic.
This is what our President told the staff as he conducted a swearing-in over Zoom:
The only thing I expect with absolute certitude is honesty and decency….Remember – people don’t work for us. We work for the people ... they pay my salary, they pay your salary. We have an obligation.
I’m going to make mistakes. When I make them, I’ll acknowledge them - and I’ll tell you. and I’ll need your help to help me correct them.
Humility and service. I could almost learn to love him.
A lot of Biden’s Day 1 agenda was the great undoing of dumb, dangerous, and evil things. It is my pleasure to report that the President gave an executive order that will reinstate the US to the Paris climate agreement after the mandatory 30-day waiting period. He halted spending on the border wall and reversed the insidious travel ban aimed at nations with Muslim majorities. The 1776 Report (the ahistorical nonsense document about how to teach American History) has been removed the from the whitehouse.gov website. The tech team has restored the Spanish language version of the site that the last Administration took down. And there was so much more, but I know you read the news.
Biden’s priorities are clear:
COVID
Climate Crisis
The good folks at The Frontline are already on the job, to keep this Administration pointed in the right direction. Take a moment to commit to the People’s Charter, an agenda that works for the masses of Americans who are calling for economic, racial, and climate justice. Then, send a message to our new President.
Sign the People’s Charter and send a postcard to President Biden!
We will get back to work tomorrow.
with love,
L
