Dear friends,
There is a tremendous amount going on, as the nation exceeds the debt limit, is roiled by severe weather (i.e. climate change impacts), and continues to be plagued by violence.
I began the week with two long posts — even by my own verbose standards — and I need to catch my breath. So, in the tradition of Thursdays, I will throw back quickly to a few things on our action docket, and then I’ll see you tomorrow!
If, as scientists predict, El Niño returns this year bringing dangerous heat waves, it is likely to “exacerbate the catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis.” Are we ready? We are not.
Take this 1-click action from NY Renews to tell state legislators to invest in climate action. You do not need to live in NY to take action.
The FBI’s repeated opposition to the release of Leonard Peltier is driven by vindictiveness and misplaced loyalties, according to a former senior agent close to the case who is the first agency insider to call for clemency for the Indigenous rights activist who has been held in US maximum security prisons for almost five decades.
It’s always clemency season.
Tell Biden to free Leonard Peltier. I made it easy.
Kevin McCarthy is trying to snow people with some bullshit about refusing to raise the credit limit on your kid’s credit card. His baffling analogy ignores the fact that we have to pay the debts we have already accrued and that we ran them when Republicans cut taxes on the rich.
Tell your representative that we have to raise the debt ceiling or get rid of it altogether.
George Santos’s lies continue to emerge at a steady pace. His mother was not in either of the Twin Towers on 9/11; she wasn’t even in the US. I don’t have time to explore the meaning of today’s revelations. Enough already.
Read Peter King’s surprisingly good discussion of why Santos has to go. Then, sign Adam Schiff’s petition calling on Santos to resign.
with love,
L
