Dear friends,
I’ll be brief today. Action matters.
“return all of the hostages to their families; stop the violence in Gaza and rocket fire on Israel from Gaza; and end the tremendous civilian suffering in Gaza by enabling a massive surge in humanitarian aid.”
This is not the same as the call for a permanent ceasefire from more progressive representatives. It is, however, an acknowledgment by those who have been ardent supporters of Israel that the situation is untenable.
Both Goldman and Nadler have been hearing from constituents who oppose US support for Israel.
One of the signs I saw yesterday said:
We can’t say we didn’t know.
The midweek, mid-afternoon crowd was large and passionate. We called on our representatives to represent us, rather than the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which donates tens of millions of dollars to politicians to buy their unconditional support of Israel.
Tell your Senators where you stand. You can call or email and you can change up the language I’ve provided.
Today, Netanyahu detailed his vision for indefinite military control of postwar Gaza by the IDF, which
would make it almost impossible to establish a Palestinian state including Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, at least in the short term.
Israel is threatening a new offensive on Rafah. We need an end to the relentless violence and find a path to peace and stability.
Pressure on Hamas and Israel to conclude a [ceasefire] deal is mounting. There are widespread concerns among observers that an imminent Israeli offensive on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza will cause further extensive civilian casualties and that the start of Ramadan in less than three weeks could ignite widespread unrest in the occupied West Bank as well as exacerbate risks of a regional conflagration.
Tell President Biden that he must call for a ceasefire. I made it easy; you can make it your own.
with love,
L
