Dear friends,
Today is the winter solstice. We are entering our fourth season of the pandemic, but tomorrow, there will be a little more daylight.
The endless 2020 election drama promises to continue, with a few wingnut members of Congress promising to challenge the electoral vote count. We’re going to need more than daylight to disinfect this shit.

Meanwhile, in the real world, the hardship is widespread. With eviction moratoriums coming to an end, officials are busy putting people out of their homes. We’ve been on this issue for weeks now and we need to keep at it; we are fortunate to do this from the comfort of our homes.
Make calls to your state legislators to get them back to Albany to pass The Emergency Housing Stability and Displacement Prevention Act, S8667/A10827.
Congress is still stuffing the sausage in the casings, so to speak; it isn’t entirely clear yet what’s in the relief legislation that they are preparing to pass. I’m hoping that we won’t again find the Kushners and Trumps collecting Paycheck Protection Program funding. I am heartened by the removal of ‘liability protections’ for employers who put their employees in harm’s way during the pandemic (while raking in profits), but I know better than to believe there isn’t a lot of scary stuff in the sausage.
On a personal note: a business that has sustained me needs a little support right now. The good folks who make Martin’s Pretzels, which you may have sampled at the Union Square Greenmarket are out of business for the time being because of a fire that destroyed their bakery.
Help Martin’s Pretzels get back into action!
The poet George Herbert wrote, “Every mile is two in winter.” For this reason, walk with a friend. We have a long season ahead.
with love,
L
