Hi friends,
Sorry to intrude on your Sunday, but I completely forgot to include an important reminder: tomorrow, Monday, 8/8, is the last day to request an absentee ballot in NYS for the August primary.
It’s a good time to remind you that it is no longer possible to show up to vote in person on a voting machine if you have been issued an absentee ballot. You can vote in person with an affidavit ballot.
The affidavit ballot will be kept separate until the election is completed. Election officials will verify whether the voter’s absentee ballot has been received. If the voter’s absentee ballot has been received, the affidavit ballot will not be counted. If the voter’s absentee ballot has not been received, the affidavit ballot will be counted.
If you want an absentee ballot, request it here:
Make your request for an absentee ballot online!
For details on obtaining paper Absentee Ballot Applications, designating someone to pick up your ballot for you, and returning your absentee ballot, go to this page.
If you are permanently ill or disabled, you have the right to receive an Absentee Ballot for each subsequent election without further application. Simply file an application with your county board of elections indicating permanent illness or physical disability.
Lastly, I urge you not to send your absentee ballot in too early. Politics moves faster than it used to. People drop out of races and scandals and campaign finance information come to light.
Early voting begins on Saturday, August 13. I will try to weigh in on some critical races by the end of the week.
Check early voting hours and locations here.
Have a great day!
